A Journey with Juan Ponce de León

Ponce de Leon made many historic journeys in his lifetime, including a voyage to Puerto Rico in 1506, a trip to the island of Bimini in 1512, a return journey to Bimini in 1513--although he ended up in Florida--and a second voyage to Florida in 1521. He died in Florida, fighting against the area's indigenous people whose land he'd invaded. How can we learn more about Ponce de Leon's journey and life, including his problematic treatment of Native peoples? We can study writings, maps, and artwork from the time in which he lived.
